I am not compelling you to read this half-assed LJ of mine. It has very little content, these days. I've found myself increasingly at odds with circumstances in deciding what (and more importantly, what _not_) to say. There will be the occasional odd (very, very odd) peek into whatever passes for a mind and a heart in this cyclothymic, pseudo-enigmatic, nerdy shade-of-grey that is me. And a bit of fluffy fun, maybe. Sometimes (often) entries will fit both of those descriptions. At least on good days. If you don't like what I write, feel free to ignore it. I have been a live-mix video projection artist (aka "VJ" in modern parlance) since 1992 (with the last couple years spent on hiatus), working in/around the Denver area (and occasionally in places like New Orleans and Rochester, NY), and I have been a musician for over 25 years. My current artistic fixation is trying to fight off the "fibro fog" & fatigue, get my life back in order, and restart work on my 4+ "new" audiovisual performance projects. I am a gratuitous and unapologetic technophile. I heart gadgets. But I fear them as well. I find this to be a very interesting time to be alive. "We have better rockets than the coyote." Technology may well be humanity's undoing. Or it may be the harbinger of our next stage of evolution. Or both. And anywhichway, it is quite amazing to think that much of what we are coming to take for granted was only the stuff of the most passionate and fanciful imaginations (and in some cases, beyond even them) in times so recent that some people still alive remember them. Can you feel the steady acceleration? But in what direction are we accelerating? Skyward, to the stars and beyond? Or plummeting, to smash into pulp upon the Earth out of which we dragged ourselves so agonizingly over the last several millennia? Or some yet-inconceivable combination of the two? Or something else entirely? My generation may live to see the answer. Fuckin' wow. I'm usually alot younger at heart than in actual years since birth. But lately (like in my teen years) I feel 1000 years old. I'm a bit psycho at times. OK, more than a bit. And more often than that. But I'm "mostly harmless". Really. Muahahaha. But its reference is to something that transcends all thinking." - Joseph Campbell Spiritually, I identify as a "neo-shamanic sorcerer" for the sake of (relative) simplicity, though I find that classification limiting and not entirely accurate. I find resonance with portions of many (perhaps most) religious/spiritual/magic(k)al traditions and schools of thought I have found, ranging across the spectrum and the world. I am fairly scientifically-minded, but I consider science to be essentially a dogmatic religion of sorts, and the classical "scientific method" to be inherently self-limiting and ultimately flawed. (Newer areas of scientific thought are gaining much ground though, with the growing realization of their own limitations.) Contrary to a common impression some people get, I' m (more than) a bit emotional at times. Just don't tell anyone, mmm'kay? Might ruin my image, y'know. If you want to know more about me than what I can or will tell, surf my friends list. Many of them (and many people who aren't on it, as well) are much more a part of me than they know. Though I'm very much my own person and I often act aloof, I see a great deal of what I am, what I have been, what I hope to become, and what I love but can never be, in the friends and family that surround me. Even the brief interactions with - or observations of - people I will never know well enough to call friends have a lasting effect on me. My memory is hazy, but the "memory soup" of my life would not have the same flavor without every experience I can or can't remember. If I don't call or write (online or offline) much, it's not that I don't care. You are in good company. (See my friends-list again.) I'm just socially anxious these days, and have a head and heart that frequently overflow with art and science and spirit and chaos and noise and, occasionally, pain. And contrary to my true inner nature, I am often at a loss for meaningful words. Especially in the last couple of years. Life is way too short. Treasure it, and live it to the fullest extent you can. Celebrate life, love, and friendship. Remind me (and allow me) to do the same more often. Let the people you cherish know that they are valued. Listen when they tell you the same. The majority of people, even the jaded cynics, need to know they are cherished, though many will never admit it.
